The Harrisburg region has received another poor ranking in the annual air pollution report card from the American Lung Association. The region including Harrisburg, Carlisle and Lebanon ranked 24th in the nation for its level of short-term particle pollution — tiny particles that come from diesel exhaust and coal-burning power plants.

It means the area has many days when the air is filled with the tiny particles. These particles of pollution a fraction of the width of a human hair. They get into the lungs and worsen health problems such as asthma, bronchitis and emphysema.

The Harrisburg area has received similar rankings in previous reports. More information can be found at www.stateoftheair.org and www.lungaction.org.
