2013 American Lung Association “State of the Air” report

The 2013 American Lung Association “State of the Air” report is now available.

How did the Harrisburg-Carlisle-Lebanon metropolitan area do in the past year?   The rankings show we were (1 is the dirtiest):

  • Ranked 80 for high ozone days out of 277 metropolitan areas
  • Ranked 19 for 24-hour particle pollution out of 277 metropolitan areas
  • Ranked 39 for annual particle pollution out of 277 metropolitan areas

How did the York-Hanover-Gettysburg area do in the past year?

  • Ranked 68 for high ozone days out of 277 metropolitan areas
  • Ranked 26 for 24-hour particle pollution out of 277 metropolitan areas
  • Ranked 50 for annual particle pollution out of 277 metropolitan areas

How did the Lancaster area do in the past year?

  • Ranked 33 for high ozone days out of 277 metropolitan areas
  • Ranked 37 for 24-hour particle pollution out of 277 metropolitan areas
  • Ranked 44 for annual particle pollution out of 277 metropolitan areas

Air quality across the country has improved and our area has benefited from reduced pollution nationwide.  Nevertheless , we experience a significant number of unhealthy air days, both for ozone and fine particles.
